George's Basic Guide to Roleplaying!

Post by jackson on Fri Dec 16, 2016 2:28 pm

You went onto Tigress Gaming with the intention that it would be easy and fun. Due to your very little knowledge of DarkRP you frantically ask players how to Roleplay and in response they give you a cocky look and laugh. You feel dumb and need help, lucky for you George's Basic Guide to Roleplaying! is only a link away!

What is Roleplay?
Roleplay is the act of acting out a certain character. You can be a shopkeeper, police officer or a radio station host. There are numerous jobs that you can act out and each have different roles and different experiences. It is almost as you're an actor, you've been given a role and you make your own story from that character. In addition there are rules that each job have and make it so the Roleplaying experience doesn't become somewhat stupid and unlike real life situations. So before Roleplaying make sure to check the rules via !motd, it should be one of many tabs that each contain different information.

In-Character
Being in-character pretty much means how your character would react to various situations, not how you would in real life. An example, a Drug Dealer is seen walking the streets looking to deal drugs, he walks down an alley and unexpectedly a Thief is there ready to mug the harmless Drug Dealer. The Thief demands the Drug Dealer to get on the ground and then tells the Drug Dealer to drop $500 or suffer a very painful death, the Drug Dealer refuses and doesn't do anything about the situation, this would be a very accurate example of what not to do. In real life you would do anything to save your life so the correct thing to do what drop the $500 and resume with everyday life.

The easiest way to think of this is to pretend you're an actor and you have to be the character you were assigned, you have to pretend you're that character in every way. Try to convey a story and a personality by the things you do, be your character not yourself.

All characters need a name, right? Having a name in Roleplay is very essential and key to other players identifying you. Having "pu$$y_slay3r_720" isn't an acceptable name and your name must be two words, make it unique, make it very special and make it identifiable when playing. A few good examples would be "Bowie Hendricks", "Clementine Smith" and even "Curtis Krabs".

Out of Character
Being out of character practically is being yourself. This is basically yourself taking a break and just taking a few minutes off Roleplaying or just socialising with the community whilst Roleplaying. Again it is like being an actor, they have to have a break from time to time and this is pretty much the same thing when Roleplaying

When taking a break or just socialising most players use Out of Character chat or OOC for short. To use this simply type in "//" or "/ooc" without the brackets followed with what you want to talk about. Remember that this is only used when Out of Character or just to socialise. It cannot be used to notify friends that you're being raided or you're being mugged etc.

Basic Rules

  1. Fail Roleplay / FailRP - This is when you fail your characters rules. An example of this would be a Hitman attempting to mug a Citizen. The rules state that Hitman cannot mug nor raid so this would be classified as FailRP.
  2. Random Deathmatch / RDM This is when you kill or attempt to kill a player without reason. You must have reasoning behind killing a player, killing a player because he/she is harassing you is not a valid reason. You must call a server staff to deal with OOC situations.
  3. New Life Rule / NLR - New Life Rule applies to you when you have died, it means you cannot remember anything that has happened in your previous life. This includes knowing that you're getting raided and so on.
  4. Fear Roleplay / FearRP - This is Roleplaying the element of fear. Your character at no point in any situation can display no fear. Your character will always feel fear regardless.
  5. Random Arrest / RDA - RDA is when you randomly arrest a player without reason hence the name. You need a valid reason to arrest someone regardless, like before you cannot arrest a player in an OOC situation, you must call a server staff to deal with the situation.

Glossary

  • IC - In Character
  • OOC - Out of Character
  • Minge - This person doesn't just see a box, they see an elaborate way to get more frags and get banned as quick as possible.
  • RP - Roleplay
  • RDM - Random Deathmatch
  • FailRP - Fail Roleplay
  • NLR - New Life Rule
  • FearRP - Fear Roleplay
  • RDA - Random Arrest
